Recipe for Succes

"Having roots in Louisiana, we like our stuff hot. My ingredients are gospel, blues, jazz, soul and a pinch of funk. Turn the heat up and stir. When it comes to a boil, pour it into the key of g-minor."

WHAT CURTIS SAYS about CD:
"My intent is to show people, that there is no thing as 'new music'. It is basically a regurgitation of what has already came before. I believe that music still should deliver a message and if the music has no meaning or purpose, it should not be written. My CD 'Mixing the Old with the New'is about my immediate family; my children and my family. (maybe not in that order) But it is also a CD that relates to our world today and what is going on. But does not shrink from the responsibility to make this interesting music to listen and/or to sing with and to get your groove on. I hope you enjoy this. And listen to the lyrics! That is what I do best, telling the story ."

CURTIS DARBY is a professional lyricist, singer, songwriter, composer and musician, but he is also a gifted poet, painter and writer. The last 20 years, he has been an American living in his music that reminds us that it is a art form. Emerged in his travel of culture and languages of Europe, he's became a more enriched person. He believes that being introduced to different styles of music and culture has effected his growth as a musician and an individual. This also led to him finding the connection between all his talents, which resulted in three musicals that he wrote and produced by himself. And also to translate his life experiences into music, sound and pictures.
His reality has become a fantasy that most people dream of…. to live, work and play in the world of music.

ON THE ROAD

In his spare time, Curtis wrote 5 children books. In Atlanta Curtis was offered an opportunity to turn his books into plays. He worked with The School of Performing Arts directing his own plays. Curtis collaborated with a well-known producer of Disney. They wrote music together for an up and coming artist. Curtis still had the need to expose more of his gifts, so he decided to produce a new collection of artwork, called ‘The Light’. This collection got him noticed by art critics who praised him for his unique work. This allowed him to display his work in many galleries. Soon Curtis received a similar offer from The School of Performing Arts in Minneapolis/St. Paul to create his plays. This time Curtis drew from his own background and his own life and wrote 3 new plays; 'The Curtis Darby Express', 'Now my eyes can see Hope' and 'Can’t we just get along'. These plays found success and the audience gravitated to them. He also produced several CD's by himself. The last one contains 9 songs and is called: 'Honoring my Legacy'. The play 'The Curtis Darby Express' did well and got notoriety and soon he got a phone call to have a meeting with some Hollywood producers Ken Rotcop, Ron Bechtel and Doug Schwartz. Writing and rewriting for 3 months in California it is still being pitched to major studios. Back in Minneapolis, Curtis was asked to create a 30 minutes tv show for both Minneapolos and St. Paul. He called it 'The Curtis Darby Variety Show'. This allowed him to use some more of his skills and gifts, like his photography, videography, psychology, creativity and music. This tv show was aired twice a week for about a year. After a while Curtis missed his first and true love: music and performing live on stage. Using some contacts he established in California and the reconnection of his childhood manager, he sat out an elaborate tour across the country: The East Coast/West Coast Tour. Finally, his desire to break through the glass ceiling and expand his audience, he is now in pursuit of an international career.
